Moving with Furry Friends

 Moving with Furry Friends

Moving is stressful enough—add pets into the mix, and it can feel like chaos. But with a little planning, your pets can handle the move just as smoothly as you do. Here’s how:

  1. Prep Your Pets Early: Start getting your pets used to the idea of moving. Pack their things last, so they stay in their routine as long as possible. Familiar smells and comfort items will help.

  2. Prep Your Removal Team: Let your removal company know that you have pets so they can be sure to take extra care on removal day. Strange and unfamiliar people going in and out of the house may be difficult for your pets, so letting your removal team now will make sure they stay calm when around them.

  3. Visit the Vet: Before you move, get a check-up and update any vaccinations or medications. If your pet is traveling far, make sure to remember to register them at a new vet in the area.

  4. Create a Pet "Moving Kit": Pack your pet’s essentials—food, water, bowls, bedding, toys, and leashes—so they’re easily accessible during the move. Definitely have snacks and treats easily accessible to keep your furry friends calm and happy throughout the day.

  5. Keep Them Safe on Moving Day: On moving day, keep your pet in a quiet room with the door closed or with a trusted friend to reduce anxiety. Avoid the chaos as much as possible.

  6. Settling In: Once you’re at your new home, give your pet time to adjust. Set up their space with familiar items, and take them for walks around the new neighbourhood to help them feel at home.

Moving with pets can be a breeze when you plan ahead! With a little extra care and attention, they’ll quickly settle into their new home, and you’ll be able to enjoy the adventure together.
